Straight for Equality initiative set to launch in Springfield

Straight for Equality, a national initiative to empower straight people to support and advocate for LGBT equality, will launch in Springfield at a special event at 5:30 pm, Nov. 1, at Drury University’s Findlay Student Center.

Dr. Teresa Hornsby, co-chair of the Religion and Philosophy Department at Drury University, will deliver a keynote address, “Who Locked the Door? Paul and the Keys to the Kingdom,” followed by three break-out panels to discuss faith, healthcare and workplace issues of importance to LGBT persons.

This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Diversity and Reconciliation and PFLAG-Springfield with support from Spectrum; Lambda, a group of LGBT and ally faculty and staff at MSU; and Drury Allies.

This event is free and open to the public.

Sir, I saw your speech. It brought me to tears. Thank you on behalf of my girlfriend and I, and all my friends that believe we are equal. I think your words are making a powerful difference and I hope to one day hear you speak and shake your hand. God bless.
